San Francisco: KPFA ace investigative reporter Dennis Bernstein caught
up with Private Investigator Sam Spade yesterday. Here's his report:

Bernstein:    Sam, what's your take on Pacifica's latest hatchet job out
on the East Coast?

Spade:    When a man's partner is killed he's supposed to do something
about it.

Bernstein:    But what if, say, one of 'em wasn't too popular, had done
some bad things in the past?

Spade:    It doesn't make any difference what you thought of him, he was
your partner and you're supposed to do something about it. And it
happens we're in the detective business. Well, when one of your
organization gets killed it's, it's bad business to let the killer get
away with it. Bad all around, bad for every detective everywhere.

Bernstein:    Why were they bumped off? What's everyone fighting over?
What is it?

Spade:    The uh, ... stuff that dreams are made of.

Bernstein:    Huh?
