About the lawsuits 10-21-01 |
From: siddharta5@y... Date: Sun Oct 21, 2001 11:49 am Subject: Carol and the Lawsuit to Save Pacifica Friends, (sorry, I cleaned up the attachment and added a title) I have sometimes been critical of Carol Spooner on this discussion board. I had found it difficult to understand her and interpretated her sometimes laconic answers to mean she had a hidden agenda. Wednesday evening, I was quite attentive in the front row. I have to admit I was wrong. Ms. Spooner is an unassuming person that you could easily pass by not knowing she is now a household name in the Free Pacifica movement. I was not too concerned about the legal niceties of the lawsuits by which we all are feeling sometimes stumped. She, instead, chose to recall how, at the age of 15, she had been drawn to the alternative and progressive message of KPFA. When she had realized that the thugs had taken over Pacifica and her dear radio station, she decided to use every means at her disposal to try to save what she considered a life line to people of conscience. She said of Pacifica Radio that, so many times, she had heard a speech, a tune or a poem and had to pull over her car to the side of the road because tears blinded her eyes. At that moment, I realized what Carol was about. As a true Pacifican, she could never give up on the message of Lew Hill and others that she had so completely internalized. Many of us know exactly how she feels. I appeal to you to contribute all you can to help fund the lawsuit, which may well be the last chance to save the Pacifica we know should live on. Below is some information from Jamie Ross, from CF Rockland on where to send the money.

benefit, but it's too large. I asked Pete to post on the CF website)

Funding the lawsuits:
> One more message on Carol Spooner and the lawsuits--there is a
matching fund set up so that all contributions to the listener lawsuit
through 10/20 will be doubled! So, if you are considering making a
contribution, now would be an advantageous time. (If you've already
made one, great! Sorry for being a pest.) Note that this offer only
extends to the listener suit, which receives contributions through the
two organizations listed below, the Committee to Remove the Pacifica
Board and the Marin Health Fund/Public Media Initiative. The third
fund, Vanguard, which is worthy and supports all the suits, is not
included in the matching offer, I think. Since it is the listener suit
that has the greatest expenses at this point, however, it makes sense
to contribute to it alone via the first two funds.
