PNB meeting location, directions and housing info 11-10-01 |
DIRECTIONS TO THE PNB MEETING: Via Metro : Yellow or Blue Line to Pentagon City, exit station at Pentagon City Mall, WALKING: left in front of mall to Macy's, right on Army-Navy Drive, hotel is 3 blocks on right or SHUTTLE BUS every 30 minutes, from 6 AM 10 AM. DRIVING: From DC over 14th St, Bridge, far left lane, into Crytal City, take 15th St exit, right at light, to Eads St, right, to Army-Navy Drive, 3 blocks, hotel is on the right, pay parking available. Doubletree telephone: 703-416-4100 ---------------- As is typical, the Pacifica National Board majority waited til the last allowable minute (7 days notice under the court stipulation) to reveal the locale for their 11/17-18 meeting. Last night, Leslie Cagan passed along the info, as soon as she learned it, that the meeting will take place at the Double Tree Hotel in Crystal City, VA (300 Army-Navy Drive at Eads St.), across the street from the Pentagon (!). It's about a half hour from downtown DC by car or subway, but luckily it's just three blocks from the Pentagon City subway stop (and the hotel has a shuttle service to pick people up from the stop). This is a place the PNB has met at least twice before, clearly designed to be difficult for large numbers of listeners to get to. Some of us will be booking rooms there (the hotel's phone: 800-222-8733--natl. reservations; 703-416-4100--local) so we have a base of operations. Rates: $79 for one in a room; $139 for 2; $149 for 3; $159 for 4 (members of AARP get greatly discounted senior rate for whoever is in their room). If we can book 10 rooms, we will be eligible for a block discount. Also, we may be able to match up people who want to share a room to cut costs. So if you want to book a room -- no matter what city you're coming from -- contact Steve Bernhaut of Concerned Friends of WBAI at sbernhaut@aol.com (please put "re housing" in subject line) or call him at 973-762-3682.
[ I just looked at the http://www.doubletree.com and rates are $89 for a
double with double beds or one king bed if you register over the internet
or by phone and there is also no cancellation fee if you cancel by 4PM,
You can reserve through http://www.travelocity.com
for $79 for a double with double beds but there is a $50 cancellation or
change fee. - Patty ] Local activists will also be lining up community housing (which may end up being quite distant from the hotel), and you can register your need with Steve as well. Since the group in DC is quite small, we'd encourage you to also make your own effort to find housing with any friends you might have there. At the bottom are also some cheap housing options that were put together by Denis Moynihan of the Pacifica Campaign. He is continuing to explore other options, including places where large numbers of people could stay together. Steve is also handling the transportation from NYC and NJ on Thurs. nite, Sat. morn., and Sun. morn., so call him about that as well. We encourage folks to join us starting on Friday for last-minute preparation, activist planning meetings, and informal networking. We'll be attending and participating in the PNB meetings both Sat. and Sun., and protesting where necessary. The DC folks are working with the Pacifica Campaign on a major teach-in for Sat. nite, hopefully with speakers from all 5 cities.
